THE MURDERER (CHAPTER TWO-PART TWO)

Know this before I continue with my story. I had been dating Jim for about 2 years at this point and in all my years of being friends with Jim and eventually dating him, he had never raised his voice at me. I had never heard him use such a murderous tone on anyone, let alone me. So you can imagine my surprise when I heard the anger in his voice and my shock when I realized that that anger was directed at me.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”

His loud voice spooked me and made me drop my bottle of coke on the floor. Thankfully, it was still unopened.

“What the hell?!”, I spun around to face him while taking a deep breath to calm my racing heart. “You scared me”.

He crossed the distance between the door and his desk and looked down at me. “You didn’t answer my question”. He looked absolutely livid.

“Geez”, I held out my hands in a placating gesture. “I was just looking through your pictures and I accidentally scrolled down to this mysterious folder”.

“Accidentally?”, I nodded my head in affirmation. “Seems to me like you were trying to invade my privacy to see what’s in the folder”, I shook my head in denial.

He softened and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Nancy look at the computer”, he pointed at the screen and I spun to look at the screen. “It literally says ‘password incorrect. Try again’. I’m not blind”.

I turn around to face him.”I beg to differ”, I state.

“Nan..”

“Fine. You caught me but you’re acting suspicious. What’s so private about this folder that made you yell at me when you walked in instead of greeting me with a kiss?”

He bent down so he was at eye level with me. “I’m sorry baby. Come here”, he leaned in and puckered his lips.

I placed my palm on his lips and pushed him back making him land on his butt. “I’m sorry mister but you lost your chance already”.

He sat up on the floor and pouted. “Come on. Just one little kiss. Two seconds?”

“Not happening”. He looked so crestfallen that I almost gave in. “Later okay?”, I promised. “So….?”, I prompted.

“So…. what? I don’t understand”, he honestly looked so confused. I realize now that he was just a really good actor.

I sighed. “So … are you going to tell me what’s in that folder or better still give me the password so I can see for myself.

For a second there, I could almost swear he panicked.

“Do I have to?”, He whined.

“Yes. You do”, I answered, nodding.

“Fine. You little surprise ruiner”, I raised an eyebrow at this. “I was working on a little surprise for you to celebrate our 4 years of knowing each other but it’s ruined now”, he shrugged.

Jim and I surprised each other all the time with gifts and gestures, sometimes little, sometimes grand. I had to try to salvage the situation because I was now curious as to what the surprise entailed.

“Hey! No harm done. Go on with whatever you were planning”.

“It’s not a surprise anymore if you’re already expecting it”, he explained slowly.

“But, I don’t know what it is so you’re safe”, I countered. “Continue alright? I’ll try not to go snooping around again”.

“What am I going to do with you?”, He asked with a resigned sigh. “Fine baby but no snooping okay?”

“Yes! Yes! Yes! I love you”, I happily exclaimed while pulling him up to my level and placing kisses everywhere on his face.

“Hey!”, He pushed my face away playfully. “Stop slobbering all over my arm”. He was rewarded with a smack on the arm.

“Ow!”, He screamed dramatically and earned an eye roll. “Anyways can you get up now? I bought you lunch and I’ve got some work to do before the end of the day”.

I jumped up excitedly. “Yes! Lunch. See ya”. I ran towards the kitchen leaving him chuckling.
